Call for Entries: 2020 Utah Design Crafts Artists Competition

2020 Utah Design Crafts Artists Competition Call for Entries

In 2019, the Brigham City Museum of Art & History launched a joint competition and exhibition to honor the 60th anniversary of the Utah Designer Craft Alliance. Artists of all ages and skill levels entered the competition while works from previous UDCA members and from the Museum’s permanent collection completed the exhibition. We received a wellspring of support from past UDCA members who were pleased to see its legacy highlighted in this exhibition and hoped the Museum would produce many more.

We are very much looking forward to hosting the Second Utah Designer Craft Artists competition this year and invite you to join us. The show will run from Saturday, November 21 through Saturday, January 16. Submissions are due Saturday, November 14 by 5:00 PM. Entry fee is $35 per artist, not per submission. Artists may submit up to three pieces. Click here to access the entry form.

As with last year, the categories are:

  • Fiber
  • Wood
  • Glass
  • Clay
  • Metal
  • Stone
  • Or any mix of these media

Your participation will carry on the important legacy of the UDCA. Founders Dorothy Bearnson and Angelo Caravaglia founded UDCA in 1960, then known as the Utah Designer Craftsmen, to be a community of artists and supporters working to foster vitality, awareness and appreciation for the three-dimensional arts in Utah through education, communication, and exhibition. It is now the responsibility of the Brigham City Museum of Art & History to forward that mission, which is what led to the inaugural UDCA Competition in 2019.

While the UDCA dissolved as an organization, we are excited to adapt and continue their tradition of showcasing talented Utah Design Crafts Artists like you.

We are pleased to announce this year’s theme will be “Design of the Times.”  We cannot ignore the state of the world as we seek out design/craft artworks to share with our community through this exhibition.  Many artists have found themselves with an abundance of studio time, and very few physical outlets for display and sale.  We hope that you will reflect on this theme as you select your entries.  While this is an invitation-limited event, we encourage you to share this information with other members of your artistic communities within Utah.  Any questions about the show and its parameters can be addressed to museum@bcutah.org, or 435-226-1435.  We look forward to hearing from you.
