Fine Art & Illustration Exhibition

The Brigham City Museum of Art & History is thrilled to host a unique collection of artists for its Fine Art & Illustration Exhibition. Works by David M. Ball, Ken Meyer Jr, David Happen, Michael Hirshon, and Bradley Williams will be on display until June 19.

The intent of this exhibition is to increase appreciation for art styles that people in our region might not otherwise have the opportunity to see. Works on display range from abstract to realism and from character studies to personal reflections.  It is the kind of balance that has become a hallmark of some of the Museum’s most popular exhibits, such as its annual Art Quilt Exhibition. “Christian’s enthusiasm for this exhibit is contagious,” said Alana Blumenthal, Museum Director.  “The variety of styles and subjects reflected by these illustrators will speak to a broad audience.”

David M. Ball is a mixed-media artist based in San Francisco with three decades of experience providing art for magazines, books, and galleries. His work employs layers of collage, acrylic, and colored pencil in unexpected ways to create otherworldly scenes of his imagining. The result is always surreal, other-worldly landscapes, driven by character and narrative. Ball has taught Illustration at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for over 25 years.

Ken Meyer Jr. has been an artist for so long, it’s hard for him to remember exactly how it all started. He is one of the original Magic: The Gathering artists (Kird Ape), has created numerous Vampire the Masquerade illustrations, the tail insignia for the Stealth Fighter, Sony Online’s Everquest, magazines, ad campaigns, and an unlimited number of freelance works. David Habben learned at an early age to appreciate art and illustration through his librarian mother. His illustrations can be found in a wide variety of media, including children’s books, magazines, advertising campaigns, theatre posters, snowboards, and other freelance work. Habben teaches illustration and graphic design at Brigham Young University.

Michael Hirshon is a freelance illustrator and teaches illustration at the University of Utah. He is enthusiastic about illustration and enjoys seeking out unusual avenues for visual storytelling.  He has spent the past decade working with a wide array of clients including The New York Times, HarperCollins Publishers, Amazon, The Washington Post, Forbes, and American Express, to name a few. He has moved and traveled extensively throughout his career, always with a sketchbook in hand. In every new place, drawing helps him to slow down and meditate on new experiences.

Most locals will know Bradley Williams as Box Elder High School’s art teacher or for his plein air paintings. What people might not know is that after studying illustration at Utah State University under Glen Edwards and earning a Masters of Fine Arts, Williams moved his family to the New York Metropolitan area and worked as a sought-after illustrator for book covers, magazines, and gaming art focused primarily on Science Fiction and Fantasy art.
