The Brigham City Museum of Art & History is delighted to honor the winners for its 2020 Utah Design Crafts Artist Competition on Thursday, December 3 at 6:00 PM during a virtual awards ceremony broadcasted via Facebook Live. Amy Schmidt’s A Ring for a New Now took first place, followed by Janimarie Lester DeRose’s California Ashes Urn in second place, and Diane Whittaker’s The Hunt taking third place. Merit awards were given to Rosanna Lynne Welter’s Landing, Virginia Catherall’s Sandstone Cliff, and Ivana Oblonsky Thomas’ Fractured Landscape. Nadra Haffar, former UDCA member, artist, and museum educator, served as jurist.
The virtual awards ceremony will include a panel discussion with the competition’s top winners and jurist. Access to the live broadcast and event updates will be available on the Museum’s Facebook page, and the recording will be uploaded to its YouTube channel after the event.
In 2019, the Brigham City Museum of Art & History launched a joint competition and exhibition to honor the 60th anniversary of the Utah Designer Craft Alliance. The enthusiasm from artists and visitors alike inspired us to build on that idea and start a new tradition of showcasing talented Utah Design Crafts Artists. As with last year, artists will submit works composed of wood, fiber, glass, clay, metal, stone, or any mix of these media. The exhibition closes on Saturday, January 16, 2021
