Utah: North to South

The Brigham City Museums are honored to host Utah North to South, a 30 year retrospect of artist G Russell Case, open Saturday, April 16 through Saturday, June 18.

“If ever there was a time for the quieting of one’s mind, now, I feel it is an opportune time. My focus in this show is to help direct our attention to the meaningful patterns of creation. To point to the universal truths that are plain to see of this world and human life. Every moment we are surrounded by an infinite expression of something so immensely wondrous and beautiful, yet, we can easily pass by with our thoughts captive to the concerns of our day.” – G. Russell Case

Russell Case is one of today’s premier painters of the American West. He stands proudly in the linage of greats such as Maynard Dixon and Edgar Payne and has found his own, very recognizable voice. His quiet but confident paintings exude a matter-of-factness, a straightforward authenticity. He has a clear and focused vision of where he is going and he takes us along for the journey.

The exhibition will provide visitors and art enthusiasts a look into Case’s 30 year career, focusing on Northern Utah, one of his favorite places to paint.

Teachers and Librarians: Have we got something awesome for you!

The museum is tasked with extending the reach of Utah North to South across the state by providing the show’s catalog for free to any classroom and library who would find such a resource helpful. While Case hails from Northern Utah, his love for each aspect of Utah’s vast landscapes are included in the catalog.

For those of you in Northern Utah, we have an added bonus! Before the school year comes to an end, we hope you will schedule a field trip to see the show and meet the artist. Case will be on hand both to talk to your students about his career and process while he is actively painting a new work. We have funds to provide a bussing stipend to break through the financial burden of paying for transportation. This opportunity is limited to first come first served until we exhaust the fund.

Please reach out to Mary Ann Urban to make field trip arrangements and to order catalogs at 435-226-1439 or museum@bcutah.org.
