There’s a French flair to the Brigham City Museum’s International Art Quilt Invitational Exhibition set for June 16 through Aug. 31, 2017. Beatrice Bueche of Alsace, France, is the exhibit’s Featured Art Quilter. The crème de la crème or best of the best in her portfolio is presented in the exhibition, including her interpretation of the deadliest foreign attack on American soil on Sept. 11, 2001. The quilt is titled “Why?”
Just as school bells have evolved over time from a brass bell rung by hand to a computerized tone from a speaker system, education from pioneer days to the present has progressed dramatically. An historical exhibition featuring photographs and artifacts titled “From A to Z – Schools in Box Elder County, Past and Present” will be on show at the Brigham City Museum April 1 through June 10. Admission is free.
More than 40 chapters in the guild, which was celebrating its 40th birthday, were represented in the exhibition during winter 2017. Barbara Walsh of Woodland Hills coordinated the event. Walsh, a past president of the guild, says, “Our organization is the first state quilting guild organized in America.”
The quilts in the exhibition are an optical, design phenomenon with their different shapes, textures, lines, depths, tones and space. Even though the quilts are all red and white, the reds differ in hue, saturation and brilliance.

Painters and nature crossed paths during the Brigham City Museum’s Fourth Annual Plein Air Competition. The event was open to all ages. Works submitted will hang in the museum Sept. 8 through Nov. 11. Each artist also submitted a small painting for a fundraiser for the museum at a minimal cost. These pieces are also on display.
