The Desert Southwest Exhibit Opens at the Brigham City Museum of Art & History

The Brigham City Museum of Art and History is honored to host “The Desert Southwest: Three Photographers’ Vision” Exhibit featuring the photography of Barry Parsons, Craig Law, and Sandra Todd. The Desert Southwest Photography Exhibit will show highlights of the wild and rugged beauty of the desert landscapes of Utah. The new exhibit will open at the museum on Saturday, April 22nd.

As part of the exhibit programming, the Museum will host a Free Family Night at the Museum on April 24th from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. All ages and families are welcome to attend the free event for western-themed crafts and special Lasso & Lariat demonstrations by members of the USU Extension Box Elder County 4-H.

A Free Date Night at the Museum will be held in honor of the new exhibit on April 28th from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm. The activities for the evening will include western-themed crafts and Country Line Dancing taught by Erika Bywater from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend both events.

A companion exhibit in the Museum’s Spotlight Gallery will feature “U ROCK,” a kid-curated exhibit where the children and teens of the community can display their favorite rock, fossil, or gemstone. Kids aged 5 to 18 can submit one rock to the museum from April 11th – 15th, which will be cataloged and displayed starting April 22, 2023.

The Museum’s local natural history expert, Ron Cefalo, will be at the museum on April 14th from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm to identify any submitted rocks, as well as Stephanie and Ryan Orawiec, owners of Inclusions Rock Shop (48 S. Main Street, St, Brigham City, UT 84302), who are sponsoring the exhibit and will provide a rough or tumbled rock to the U Rock participants. More information is available at www.facebook.com/BrighamCityMuseum.

The U ROCK exhibit was inspired by a local 11-year-old named Colt Cannon, who offered to donate his precious coral fossil to the Museum and expressed a desire to see more of the natural history the Museum offers. Colt wants to tell everyone, “If you want to do something, set your heart to it and believe you can do it.”

The Desert Southwest Exhibit will close on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

The U Rock Exhibit will close on May 27, 2023, and the displayed rocks will be available for pick up starting May 30.
